This book helped me survive my first two years of teaching in an inner city middle school. My weaknesses as new teacher were classroom organization and management, which she is clearly on top of when reading the book. Even though she writes from the perspective of elementary, it is definitely adaptable with some thought to 6th and 7th graders. Angela Watson's book is a nice amalgam of encouragement, practicality, kindness, and wisdom to listen to in the car. She also has a podcast and website that offer great information if you liked this book too. I love, love, LOVE this book. I bought this book because I was really looking for a book that dealt with a lot of various aspects of teaching (particularly classroom management). As a new teacher, I'm still trying out new techniques and looking to find what will work for me and my teaching style. Angela Watson's book is amazingly detailed! She gives examples, personal stories about how she implemented this strategies in her own classrooms, and best of all........ PICTURES. Since I am a visual learner, I love that she explains her techniques and then shows what it looked like in her classroom through photos.
